Icelandic fleece comes in so many different natural colors and ranges from cashmere soft to sturdy rug yarn. The spring fleece clip is often used for felting. Icelandic fleece is wonderful for spinning and loves to felt as well!Icelandic lamb's wool is just the finest fleece of the sheep's life, and if you separate the tog (outercoat) from the soft thel (innercoat) you will have one of the softest fleeces of all- rivaling cashmere. You can also spin the tog and thel together. Since Icelandic wool has less lanolin than Down or Modern sheep breeds, when washed, Icelandic fleece looses around 20-25% of the total weight, compared 40-50% to most other breeds. These fleeces will spin or felt into yummy scarves, hats, sweaters, baby blankets, or some project you have in mind for something dreamy. Adult fleece can be separated, the thel is next to skin soft, or the thel and tog may be spun together for durable socks, sweaters, afghans, etc.
